Seinfeld is obviously one of the most iconic comedy series of all time. It also is infamous for creating its own language. That cooky, crazy man Larry David brought some must-have phrases into our lives like “yada yada” and “close talker” so it is no surprise that some of these phrases have been adopted by the United States Marines. Here are five hilarious Military Codes that only true die-hard Seinfelders will get.

  1. ) Newman on Your Six!

“Hello Newman.” Everyone has their own Newman in their lives, someone who shows up right when we don’t want them to. The United States Marine Corps while stationed in Iraq used “Newman” as a code for Iraqi death-squads, who would flank the American troops and detonate concussive grenades at their feet to disorient before moving in for the kill. When generals would bark “NEWMAN AT SIX O’CLOCK,” you better believe that the American troops and Seinfeld fans would stand at attention.

2.) SNAFU

While most people know that SNAFU used to mean “Situation Normal: All F**** Up,” The boys in blue got confused on what ‘Situation Normal’ even means, so the acronym was changed to mean “Soup Nazi All F**** Up” to establish when their authority figure was in a testy mood, something essential to ensure survival in the cut-throat bottom ranks of the United States Military.

3.) Kilo Romeo Alpha Mike Echo Romeo

The NATO Alphabet has been utilized by the Military to ensure clarity and save time for communicating specific rendezvous points, codes, and digits, and helps troops communicate effectively and clearly. This code (spelling KRAMER) allows troops to reference the whacky next-door neighbor without mincing words. This military jargon is used in trenches and foxholes when troops want to talk about the infamous Cosmo Kramer with tactile efficiency.

4.) “Master of Your Domain”

Used to ask when marines are jackin’ off in the barracks.
